"You knew." The words came out before he could stop them. The Nameless Ones had been guiding him, showing him glimpses of the truth—yet now, they stood before the Hollowing, as if they were part of it. "We do not serve it," they said. "But we do not stop it, either." Rage filled his chest. Everything he had learned, everything he had believed—had it all been part of the cycle? Had he never had a choice at all? "You are not the first," the Nameless Ones said. "You are not the last. But if you go further, you will be neither." The Hollowing was not a creature. It was not a being. It was the act of forgetting.
